Newt Gingrich says Gay Marriage Ruling is 'Outrageous'
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich blasted a federal judge's decision overturning California's Proposition 8 ban on same-sex marriage.
"Judge Walker's ruling overturning Prop 8 is an outrageous disrespect for our Constitution and for the majority of people of the United States who believe marriage is the union of husband and wife. In every state of the union from California to Maine to Georgia, where the people have had a chance to vote they've affirmed that marriage is the union of one man and one woman. Congress now has the responsibility to act immediately to reaffirm marriage as a union of one man and one woman as our national policy.
"Today’s notorious decision also underscores the importance of the Senate vote tomorrow on the nomination of Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court because judges who oppose the American people are a growing threat to our society.”
Isn’t that just dandy? His sister is gay and he calls it outrageous…gay people a threat to the wishes of the majority… 31 states have some kind of discriminatory law against gay people on this issue…what Mr. Gingrich is not figuring in is that it is precisely because it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL to discriminate against a group of people even if the majority does not deem it appropriate…remember that not too long ago blacks were not allowed to marry, then they were not allowed to marry someone of a different race and if you held it to a vote the majority of Americans, who were very racist in those days would have upheld that point of view. I don't think Mr. Gingrich has any credibility, taking into consideration that he is on what? his fourth marriage? Mr. Gingrich had extramarital affairs, yes, he was an ADULTERER and that my friends makes him an asshole.
No, Mr. Gingrich, in our country the majority rules and the minority has rights. That is in our Constitution…read it you asshole. And judges who uphold our Constitution are a threat to our society? Really, Mr. Gingrich? You are so hell bent on proposing that you support the Constitution yet want to change it…particularly those areas that deal with civil rights…so typical of racists, homophobes and xenophobes.
