Let’s put it this way: Anita Bryant was the Carrie Prajean of her day. Very pretty but when she opened her mouth, stupid things oozed out and you could feel the hatred and the bigotry.
The controversial Queen of Gay Hate, Anita Bryant, will be returning to the stage on July 9, 2010 for a patriotic performance in Yukon, OK before an Oklahoma-based group that has become nationally known for its malevolent attacks on gays and whose members include the husband of leading homophobe State Rep. Sally Kern.
Bryant’s appearance is part of a two-day conference spanning July 9th and 10th calling for a return to America’s Christian heritage, a crusade against Muslims and gays, and will coincide with the first ever Patriot Pastors Tea Party. The headliner for the event is the widely discredited David Barton, who, to push his Christian heritage agenda, has been caught numerous times fudging history and fabricating quotes that he would then claim were made by the Founding Fathers. Barton has gained criticism for speaking at Christian Identity gatherings that called for the execution of homosexuals.
Oklahoma native Bryant, a former chart-topping pop star and pitchwoman for companies like Coke and Florida Orange Juice, became a notorious figure in the 1970’s with her venomous ‘Save Our Children’ campaign against homosexuals in Dade County, Florida that spread throughout the nation and led to an upswing in violent attacks, including murder, against gays and resulted in numerous cities denying or retracting civil rights for LGBT’s.
In the 2008 biographical motion picture Milk Anita Bryant shared the villain role with fellow homophobe John Briggs. Nominated for eight Academy Awards, the film went on to win Oscars for Best Original Screenplay for gay writer Dustin Lance Black and Best Actor for Sean Penn. The Oklahoma City premiere of the movie was held at the Harkins Bricktown Theater just a block away and within eyesight of the Jackson Miller Building that houses the Anita Bryant Ministries International just two floors above a Hooters restaurant.
On November 27, 1978 politician and gay civil rights activist Harvey Milk, the subject of the movie, was assassinated by fellow San Francisco city supervisor Dan White during the upswing of violence fueled by Good Housekeeping’s four-time Woman of the Year’s anti-gay rhetoric. Murderer White went on to claim a junk food diet caused him to kill Milk and Mayor George Moscone. In what became laughably known as “The Twinkie Defense”, White escaped serious consequences for his crimes and after serving less than two years of a five-year sentence he returned to San Francisco where in 1985 he committed suicide.
A bio pic of Bryant’s life is currently under development at HBO. The writer of that screenplay Chad Hodge has contacted Hate Trackers/Gossip Boy about the hate queen’s current activities. The movie, which as of now has no release date, has on board Darren Star, the creator of Sex and the City, as its 
director.

THE MOTIVATION BEHIND IT
Why if America and GLBT folks have enough on our plates now we also have the fucking Evangelicals regurgitating Anita Bryant along with the other homophobes? Why are they doing it? Very simple: The Republicans and their cohorts the Tea Baggers have to find a controversial issue, a proven winner to make them come out of the woodwork and vote in the 2010 elections.
It does seem that all their noise about not re-electing incumbents was nothing more than that, noise that was produced by the media in search of sensationalism to broadcast. So the Republicans find themselves at a crossroads, a pickle if you will. They are being hijacked by the Tea Baggers who demand the most extreme, radical right wing positions from their candidates. Under the bus are being thrown all those Republicans that were in the center. They even have a name for them: RINOS (Republicans in name only) and it is clear that with only the right wing composed of fanatical wing-nuts they are not going to win many of the elections they were counting on to gain seats in Congress.
