IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE, CLEARLY THE DREAM IS DEAD
It is the Republicans that really don’t want to have any kind of change in the immigration issue. They want to maintain the status quo by all means necessary.
Other than the stance Republicans have taken to saying no to everything President Obama and the Democrats propose, there are three other very compelling underlying reasons: First, as the Republicans are the heart and soul of business interests, these would clearly be hurt if we institute sensible reforms in immigration that would cause employers to have to pay higher salaries and also those who employ illegal or undocumented foreign workers would not have a source of cheap labor they can exploit and take advantage of.
The other reason is also very clear to me: You find that most racist people are in the vowels of the Republican Party. To actually accept these foreigners as part of the community means that they would then be equals under the law. This is totally unacceptable to the xenophobe-racist who thinks they are animals or lower humans.
Lastly, there may also be a very convincing reason Republicans don’t want a few million new voters: These newly legalized aliens will become citizens and as citizens they will vote. Who do you think these people will vote for?
