WTF? Where have these people been for the past 150 years? Oh, yes, I forget…first they were Dixiecrats then they became Republicans, now they are Teahadists/Republicans
The total number of deaths in the American Civil War is estimated at 618,000 out of 31,443,000 population; that is about 1.9655%. This is a very dear price to pay for a hideous idea and a cruel concept, one that prescribes that people of the black race are inferior and therefore can be bought and purchased as property.
To me the concept of a human being categorized as property is not only repugnant but makes me indignant. This is not just unacceptable to the civilized world but it is downright immoral.
We hear a lot about “cessation” and “States rights” coming from Republicans and Teahadists. Make no mistake about it…it is all about racism and about their refusal to accept that people of color are not just their equals but could also be superior in intelligence, talent or worthy as human beings. One of the best examples is Oprah
Winfrey or Martin Luther King. But having a black man as President of the United States is something they just can’t stand…it is beyond their capacity to tolerate and that is why they have…Republicans, Teahadists, White Supremacists and others made it their objective to make Barack Obama a one term President.
You might say that this is not true because they would be hurting the country…but I say that it didn’t stop these people to declare war on the Union and cause hundreds of thousand deaths…so what do they care if they decimate the middle class, make America weaker and make us a third world nation…in their minds the blacks have no business governing the whites and Obama has to go even if the country they are left with is in ruins.
If you have any doubts just look into history when Here's the "Cornerstone Speech" by Alex Stephens himself, Vice-President of the Confederacy, given at Savannah on March 21, 1861, in which he compares the newly drafted Confederate Constitution with the old United States Constitution:
“The constitution, it is true, secured every essential guarantee to the institution while it should last, and hence no argument can be justly urged against the constitutional guarantees thus secured, because of the common sentiment of the day. Those ideas, however, were fundamentally wrong. They rested upon the assumption of the equality of races. This was an error. It was a sandy foundation, and the government built upon it fell when the "storm came and the wind blew."
Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner- stone rests, upon the great truth that the Negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth.”
When you hear the Governor of Texas speak of Cessation, consider the source…the Texas Constitution is one fucked up document and it has some shit in it that really ought to send us flying into the stratosphere with indignation…for example:
That in this free government all white men are and of right ought to be entitled to equal civil and political rights; that the “In all the non-slave-holding States, in violation of that good faith and comity which should exist between entirely distinct nations, the people have formed themselves into a great sectional party, now strong enough in numbers to control the affairs of each of those States, based upon the unnatural feeling of hostility to these Southern States and their and patriarchal system of African slavery, proclaiming the debasing doctrine of the equality of all men, irrespective of race or color - a doctrine at war with nature, in opposition to the experience of mankind, and in violation of the plainest revelations of the Divine Law. They demand the abolition of negro slavery throughout the confederacy, the recognition of political equality between the white and the negro races, and avow their determination to press on their crusade against us, so long as a negro slave remains in these States. . . .
We hold as undeniable truths that the governments of the various States, and of the confederacy itself, were established exclusively by the white race, for themselves and their posterity; that the African race had no agency in their establishment; that they were rightfully held and regarded as an inferior and dependent race, and in that condition only could their existence in this country be rendered beneficial or tolerable.
servitude of the African race, as existing in these States, is mutually beneficial to both bond and free, and is abundantly authorized and justified by the experience of mankind, and the revealed will of the Almighty Creator, as recognized by all Christian nations; while the destruction of the existing relations between the two races, as advocated by our sectional enemies, would bring inevitable calamities upon both and desolation upon the fifteen slave-holding States.
By the secession of six of the slave-holding States, and the certainty that others will speedily do likewise, Texas has no alternative but to remain in an isolated connection with the North, or unite her destinies with the South.”
This kind of thinking, in the 1860’s was wrong then and it is doubly wrong now. To hold celebrations of the Cessation is an affront to our civilized society, a slap in the face of the descendants of the Negro slaves and opprobrium to the principles in which our country was founded and exists.
