“Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Unconstitutional

MR. PRESIDENT, NOW THAT IT HAS BEEN DEEMED UNCONSTITUTIONAL, YOU DON’T HAVE TO PURSUE A CHANLLENGE. JUST LET IT BE AND WE WILL ALL BE GRANTED EQUALITY. I KNOW YOU WANT LEGISLATION ON THIS, BUT IT MIGHT TAKE YEARS AND YEARS OF NOT BEING EQUAL IS NOT A COOL THING…

DON’T ASK, DON’T TELL…WILL THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION FIGHT THE JUDGE’S RULING?

Here is your opportunity Mr. President to put your money where your mouth is. If you instruct the Justice Department to fight it, I will interpret that action as an open opposition to the elimination of that odious law now in existence and which to many of us was clearly unconstitutional all along.

Stop listening to some of those homophobic Pentagon types and Military macho man wannabees. They are clearly homophobic because they perceive gays as something negative…something they fear so much perhaps because of their own frailties and sexual insecurities. Most straight men seem to be ok with it and most of the younger generation don’t see it as a threat.

Furthermore, there is ample evidence that this will not disrupt or harm the military in any way as we have more civilized countries than ours already with openly gay servicemen and women.

Clearly, the U.S. military’s ban on openly gay service members is unconstitutional, saying the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy violates the 1st Amendment and due process rights of lesbians and gay men.
U.S. District Judge Virginia A. Phillips said the policy does not preserve military readiness, contrary to what Justice Department attorneys and many supporters have argued, because evidence shows that the policy in fact has had a “direct and deleterious effect” on the armed services.

This whole issue of equality for gay people is going almost the same route as the Civil Rights struggle in the 60's where the courts set precedent and led the way...until there were massive marches to solidify public opinion...Are we going to have to march to Selma to accomplish this?

Mr. President, how much longer do we have to wait to not be considered second class citizens?
