SADLY, THE ODDS ARE STACKED AGAINST HIM
Just like Jimmy Carter, President Obama is facing a much similar predicament. The odds are stacked against him. Yet, if we learned anything from history, we should heed to that and realize that after Carter came Reagan…possibly one of the worst Presidents we ever had. I know it is something arguable; some people see Reagan as the greatest and still adhere to his ideology. But if you look at facts and the reality of his legacy then you can make the claim the same as I have.
Reagan left a country with trillions of dollars in debt, he defeated the Equal Rights Amendment singlehandedly, he crushed labor unions and he set us on a path of division along racial and religious lines. He empowered the Evangelicals and today we are facing the real possibility that our country could become something more like a theocracy than the secular democratic republic our forefathers intended.
Just like Jimmy Carter, Obama is a decent man, a very educated and pragmatic person. Obama like Carter before him does not stoop down to the dirty politics that are so commonplace and in fashion today. Carter lost the second term because he was a decent man and because people were willing to listen to a demagogue like Reagan who at the end of the day did not offer anything better but actually hurt our country in so many ways.
Sometimes I come out thinking that the American voter prefers a less than honest, colorful and a bit of a scoundrel person who is able to have a beer with the voter rather than somebody qualified and educated. It seems to me that many Americans value mediocrity more than competency.
Ask yourself this question: So the complaints are that there is high unemployment, a big national deficit and that government is too big…also that government can’t do anything right, again the Reagan concept of “government is the problem”. Reaganomics dictated that the richest of Americans should keep more of what they made because “they would re-invest and make all that extra money percolate down to the middle and poor classes”. However, that is something that never happened because the reality of “Trickle down Economics” is one of failure and deceit. The rich will hoard their money and that is why it was called “VODOO ECONOMICS” Trickle down Economics never worked, never will.
