SOME AMERICANS ARE VERY GULLIBLE

THE CRAP SOME PEOPLE WILL ACCEPT AS FACT AND BELIEVE IN IS ASTOUNDING

SOME OF THE CRAP AMERICANS BELIEVE IN:

Adrian Arroyo observed yesterday that writing about odd American beliefs about politics would benefit from some context. According to Gallup, lots of Americans believe lots of weird stuff:

What’s more, that’s not just a group of overlapping people. Instead “A special analysis of the data shows that 73% of Americans believe in at least one of the 10 items listed above, while 27% believe in none of them. A Gallup survey in 2001 provided similar results — 76% professed belief in at least one of the 10 items.” I’ll admit that I’m a lot more open to the view that Barack Obama is secretly a Muslim than to the view that the spirits of dead people can return in certain situations.

In my opinion, it is not surprising that we have a Tea Bag movement emerge in this country. At first it was not a GRASSROOTS kind of thing…it was all planned and carefully choreographed to appear that way. The ones behind it were obviously special interests like the Health Insurance Companies and the Koch brothers.

The instigators however, those like talk show personalities and some right wing nut jobs in Congress were fully aware that they were baiting and encouraging these impressionable fools to act like marionettes and just repeat talking point without giving it much thought. Thus we saw the emergence of far out conspiracy theories, that Obama was a Muslim, that Obama was a communist, President Obama’s birth in Hawaii was questioned, death panels and other outlandish crap was flourishing during the summer of 2009.

It all culminated in a series of Town Hall Meeting disruptions and intimidation; preventing elected officials to have meaningful dialogues with their constituents. The tactics and methods clearly resembled those used in totalitarian regimes to silence and intimidate dissidents…does Nazi Germany and Castro’s Cuba ring a bell?

For the most part, I have come to the conclusion that a lot, I mean a lot of these Tea Baggers are very ignorant, uneducated, misinformed people. Most of them are religious and if you ask them they probably do believe in stuff like ESP, reincarnation of ghosts. They get their news from Fox or listen to controversial antagonists like Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck. There is absolutely no basis for these beliefs other than to use them to dehumanize and discredit our President and the Democrats. It is all a very nasty political ruse.
